What Can We do to Change This?

An article in the Huffington Post: “What if they Declared an Emergency and No One Came?” is yet another heartbreaking story of the plight of many First Nations in Canada.

In a country filled with so many opportunities why do the appalling conditions being experienced by the Attawapiskat First Nations continue to exist? Surely as a nation that is admired around the world for our many attributes including financial expertise, compassion, and knowledge we can solve this critical challenge? How do we move beyond these stories in order to build sustainable, healthy communities where all people have hope and the opportunity to succeed?
